French Bread

French Bread

French breads as we know them today, have a long and storied history. While the dough only has 4 ingredients-- wheat flour, water, salt, and yeast, the process is key to the final result. The dough is allowed to rise for many hours, which gives the bread a deep flavor. The dough is then shaped and then baked in a very hot oven where a little steam is added to give the crust an incredible “chew” but still leaving the inside (crumb) very tender. This bread is traditionally served as long baguettes, though you will find it in many shapes and sizes. At Atlas Breads, we have the bâtard and boule shapes available. They are great breads for dinner or even bread bowls!
